Fall
The weather has turned here in Chicago. Fall is here. I think it's my favorite season. In reality, I just love all the seasons and the difference between them. Trying to compare them is as useless as comparing my love for sarcasm to Don Boudreaux's pithy wittiness, or orange mocha frappacinos to Family Guy's repeated crossing of the line. But still fall has so many fantastic aspects: the crisp air that requires a sweatshirt, leaves changing hue and eventually falling to become crunchy underfoot, pumpkin things, and thanksgiving. Fall is when you want chai, cider, and hot chocolate instead of slushies, lemonade, and frappacinos; sweaters and sweatshirts instead of polos and shorts; flannel and fleece instead of denim and linen; Ben Harper, Bon Iver, and Damien Rice instead of Coldplay, The Killers, Muse, and Blink 182; boots instead of sandals, pumpkin things instead of cherry things; sitting in front of a fire instead of sitting on a beach. I love it all. Fall also reminds you that the year is winding down, to finish up anything you've left undone. Fall moves away from the frivolity of the summer to simplicity. Fall is here.
