Tiger Woods reaction thread

11:01 very, very somber tone

11:04 he's definitely looking older, I imagine the last few months have caused some of the "president effect."

11:05 wow, he really paused to let that apology sink in

power through anger right there, but of course he has to stand up for Elin

11:07 "I felt I was entitled" "i don't get to play by different rules"

telling words, this has to be unbelievably difficult for him

11:08 "it's not what you achieve in life, it's what you overcome"

11:12 "starting tomorrow, I will leave for more treatment and more therapy"

11:15 done, 13 minutes, 32 seconds.

Not really anything that we didn't expect. Pretty standard, rehearsed, and robotic. He was very contrite. He'll keep his private life as secret as he can, and we still have no idea when he'll be back to golf. He showed some fire when talking about Elin and allegations that were made by the media. He was not wearing a wedding ring. I think he said everything he needed to say, everything he should have. He took ownership for himself as a role model to so many, especially kids around the world.

On a side note, it's too bad he likely won't be back for the Masters at Augusta, and perhaps not for the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, both courses he has dominated.

US Open

The 109th United States Open began today at Bethpage Black Golf Course on Long Island, New York. The first public course to host a major tournament back in 2002, the US Open at the Black has been dubbed "The People's Open." It plays extremely long, with multiple par 4's stretching over 500 yards. Add to that the recent rainy weather and the rain in the forecast, and you have a beast of a golf course, which will be eliminating shorter hitters. Tiger Woods is the prohibitive favorite, especially after his driving mastery at the Memorial two weeks ago. Tiger will be going for his 4th US Open and 15th major title. If he wins, he will become the only golfer in history to win twice at the same venue in all four majors. Phil Mickelson is the second favorite, and the favorite of the people. The New York fans adopted him as their own seven years ago, providing raucous theatre. If Phil and Tiger are in contention down the stretch on Sunday, expect the golf course to be as loud as the FBR Open in Phoenix.

The Masters

As many people know, The Masters golf tournament is not only my favorite sports event, it's also one of the most favorite things in my entire life. I love everything about it. The pristine and stoic golf course, inviting the best in the world to attempt to conquer it. The history and lore floating all around it. The green jacket. I could go on and on. Like always, the tournament did not disappoint. The back nine duel and charge by Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods was truly epic, the roars from the gallery penetrating to every corner of the golf course, striking fear into the frontrunners. While Tiger and Phil ultimately faded, the excitement they bring is unlike anything another golfer can create. Angel Cabrera claimed his second major, defeating Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell in a playoff. I can't wait until April next year!
