Endgame is the biography of a true genius. When you combine two of my favorite things, you get a great book. Endgame chronicles Fischer’s entire life, from upbringing and family situation, to his chess education and affinity, to his world fame and subsequent departure from the public eye. The book paints a picture of Fischer similar to the public’s perception of him. Fischer was often paranoid, bizarrely aloof, and protecting of his seclusion. The stories of his matches are fantastic, from The Game of the Century against David Byrne to the culmination of an unprecedented stretch of domination against Petrosian to his defeat of Spassky for the World Championship.
