The initial crumblings of affirmative action
Thank goodness we have five judges who choose to interpret law and think logically, rather than legislate from the bench. I don't want to act like there isn't racism in our country, or that there never has been. It was and still is a terrible problem. But when cities and businesses alter their employment and promotion practices, fearing litigation relating to racism, we have gone too far. The idea that affirmative action can alleviate past injustices is false. Businesses and cities should have the freedom to hire and promote the most qualified, regardless of race. Let's hope this is one freedom returning to stay. Oh, and this decision reversed one by Sotomayor; I lost a bunch of respect for her when I read that.
