After losing the first two matchups, Hope had much to gain, and Calvin had much to lose entering the third game. All Calvin's first two wins had gained them were home-court advantage for the third. And because of a late season slipup to Kalamazoo, both Hope's and Calvin's NCAA tournament hopes hinged on this one game and the automatic bid that the winner was awarded.
Calvin started strong, jumping out to a 7-0 advantage, which Hope eventually knotted at 7. However, Calvin pushed the lead out to 7 with 4:28 left in the first half. Jesse Reimink and Will Bowser had two fouls each. Calvin definitely had the momentum. An 8 point flurry to end the half, capped by a three at the buzzer from Bowser, left Hope leading 34-32 at intermission. Hope pushed the lead all the way to 19 in the second half, and no late game heroics remained for Calvin. Hope ended Calvin's season for the fourth year in a row and punched their own ticket for the big dance. While Jesse Reimink was the prominent star for Hope. David Krombeen, Zach Osburn, Pete Bunn, and Will Bowser were huge contributors.
