Dead or Alive is ghostwritten, although I not sure to what extent. The book definitely reads better than the Night-Ops series, which were almost certainly 100% ghost-written. If you're a Clancy fan, you love Jack Ryan and Dead or Alive gives you lots and lots of both Jack Ryan Sr. and Jr. It also extends on the black, gloves-off ideals of Teeth of the Tiger, subject matter that offers considerable amounts of gripping dialogue and action. We see the continued education and maturation of Jack Jr., exhibiting many familiar family traits. Overall, the book held up well to Clancy's name, full of detailed military gear, military objective descriptions, extensive terrorist back story and Ryan family exploits. It's not a must read, but Clancy fans will enjoy it
