Varied Skills? Or efficiency downfall?

This article makes complete sense to me. As someone who concentrates on process efficiency in whatever job I’m in, I’ve seen this firsthand in my past two jobs, one in food retail and one in direct marketing operations. Grouping similar tasks or tasks requiring similar mindsets results in the greatest efficiency and highest accuracy. Why companies insist on varying tasks is beyond me. Perhaps it’s a quest to keep workers interested by mixing the mundane with the moderately interesting. But most of all, I think it’s a failure to analyze the current situation; a staunch reliance on how things have been done. Companies are extremely hesitant to change. As a young professional with a unique background, I’m unfettered by “how things have been done.” All I see is opportunity to cut costs, streamline processes, and advance the company.
